The practice of Podiatry or Chiropody is the assessment of the lower limb and the treatment and prevention of diseases or disorders of the foot by therapeutic, surgical, orthotic and palliative means.
Only those who are registered by the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) are licensed to practice as Podiatrists or Chiropodists. In the UK, podiatrists usually undertake a 3-year undergraduate Bachelor of Science (Podiatry) university degree.
Chiropody is practiced by qualified, regulated practitioners who have undergone government established and recognized programs and examinations.
If you need the professional services of a podiatrist or chiropodist, check the directory under "Find a Podiatrist" www.hcpc.org.uk/check in the public section and select the profession and location that you require.
